Fully Trained Detection K9s
We offer fully trained detection K9s for organizations and independent handlers. Each of our detection dogs is hand selected by Stasia Dempster, our working dog specialist. These dogs are selected by assessing for the following traits:
- Physical health and appropriate health screenings
- Correct size and conformation for their discipline
- Possessing a very high level of working drive to search
- Highly motivated and willing to work tirelessly for their reinforcer
- Confidence and environmental stability
- Trustworthiness around adults, children and other animals
- Ability to focus around distractions
- Being the right combination between independent and handler focused
After selecting a dog, they live in a house with other people, children and animals to ensure that they are capable of coexisting in a typical home environment upon leaving us. The dog receives comprehensive daily detection training, but also receives regular socialization in public environments to ensure neutrality around potentially triggering stimuli, obedience training, agility work, physical conditioning, and behavioral optimization. We strive to cultivate detection dogs who are rock solid no matter which situation they find themselves working in, and we aim to provide handlers with the best possible K9 for the job at hand.
Our detection dogs are not trained on a production line. We focus on putting all of the work into one or two dogs at a time until they are finished. The final product is a top-notch detection dog who is dedicated to their work regardless of what is going on around them, but is also prepared to move into their handler’s home and demonstrate proficiency as a responsive, trustworthy companion.
